AP received both master degree and PhD at Sapienza University of Rome. After some years at ENEA (Italian National Energy Agency) and at the CNR Institute of Acoustics, he is at present senior researcher at the CNR Institute of Complex Systems. AP has experience inlaser optics, acoustics and eleasticty of disordered systems. He is currently active in statistical physics, including both non equilibrium systems like granular media, and equilibrium models for liquid crystals. He has long standing collaborations with the Universities of Sao Paulo (BR) that he has frequently and continuously visited, and has given PhD courses on probability, stochastic processes and complex systems at the universities Sapienza, Roma Tre, and of Modena e Reggio Emilia.
