Academic career:
1977 degree in physics (summa cum laude) University of Florence;
1979-1981 INFN fellow at ICTP in Trieste;
1981-1983 researcher, University of Trieste;
1983-1993 researcher, University of Florence;
1993-1996 associate professor,University of Bologna;
1996-2003 associate professor, University of Florence;
2004-2020 full professor, University of Florence;
since 2021 Honorary Professor University of Florence.
Research fields: foundations of quantum mechanics, equilibrium and nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, theory of dynamical and complex systems.
Research outcome: more than 250 publications in international journals with referee.
Organizer of many international Conferences and Workshops in Italy and abroad in all of the above research fields: in particular co-Chair of the StatPhys29 conference held in Florence in July 2025.
Invited speaker in several international conferences and meetings.
Author of textbooks published by Springer and Cambridge University Press.
Associate editor of J.Stat. Phys. and Chaos, Solitons & Fractals.
Teaching activities: courses in all domains of theoretical physics; at present “History of Chemistry and Physics” for undergraduate students, and “Nonequilibrium Statistical Physics” for master and Ph.D. students.
Thesis advisor of 19 undergraduate and 17 Ph.D. students.
Management:
since 1976 member of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare;
1987 – 2005 member of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica della Materia (INFM): national representative for the area of Statistical Mechanics and Complex Systems.
1993-1996 associate director of the Forum of Theoretical Physics of INFM;
1995-1997 general coordinator of the EU Network “Complexity and Chaos”.
1999-2004 coordinator of the italian node of the EU Network “LOCNET”.
2008 – 2020 Director of the Interdepartment Center for the Study of Complex Dynamics (CSDC) of the University of Florence.
2012-2016 Coordinator of the PhD School in Physics and Astronomy.
2015- 2018 Coordinator of the EU RTN-EJD Network COSMOS
2015-2018 member of the ANVUR of the MIUR (Italian Ministery of University and Research).
