Complex photonics is a novel branch of photonics that studies the phenomena emerging from the propagation of light in complex systems ranging from fully disordered assembly of dielectric scatterers to engineered structures aimed at exploiting the disorder and complexity for innovative solutions in the fields of light sources, detection, and fundamental research.

Complexity in photonics is widespread and it is related to the behavior of the electromagnetic radiation interacting with media characterized by a complex inner structure.
